GARDEN FOLLY

GARDEN FOLLY

This project’s goals were to explore the architectural element of the stair as path and place as well as the architectural expression of the concept of “hearth”. I used the precedent of Chichen Itza, as the Mayan’s had a strong view of motion around their city.  The fireplace represented the most important area so it was placed in the hollow core of the pyramid.  The pyramid was designed around the height of the stair so that the stair could take on a floating effect due to its importance of taking part of the path around the hearth.
